Peep Our Interview
1.So when did you fall in love with photography & your camera?
Its funny because I've always loved cameras and taking pictures. I've been freelancing since 8th grade off and on. I think taking a class my sophmore year of high school definitely added a lot of fuel to my fire but i still didnt take it too seriously because I was very focused on getting done with HS. When I moved to Atlanta for school in 2006 I started taking more pictures because I wanted to be able to remember "the best time of my life" honestly. As time progressed i honed my skills and invest a lot of time and effort into being the best "life catcher" that I could be. I love and thank all my friends new and old for helping to feed my passion by wanting to actively be apart of these life moments because it has not always been like this believe me.

2.Explain your alias "matty make it work"

I get asked about this all the time lol. Matty MakeitWork was a alias/nickname that came about during a time when I was going through difficulty growning up. I used to do a lot of complaining and wondering "why not me?" and I realized that worrying about situations that are out of your control makes for double the work load on me because at the end of the day the job has to be done bitching or not.The phrase itself actually came from my aunt/my mothers former co-executive at the YMCA on her going away party and it stuck with me. Its now tattooed on the back of my right forearm as a reminder, WE MUST GET IT DONE REGARDLESS!


3.What seperates you from other photographers in the game now?
Im RAW!lol but honestly I feel like I do a lot more with a lot less. Honestly I dont have my dream camera(no where close) but I never let that stop me from doing what I love to do. There has been times where all ive had is my camera phone and I still can come up with something Im proud of. I stand behind my work 11908% no matter what I work with just because I know this is what I do. I honestly take pictures for my health as crazy as it sounds, its really one of those things I dont have to think about doing, I just do it.

4.What is AWOL, and how did this movement start?
@WoL stands for All Walks Of Life aka i@WoL...the international @WoL team and it is a collection of talented individuals amongst many organizations all striving for success in there many different fields. I invision @WoL as a quality underground talent source for all aspects of society/entertainment. @WoL actually started on 1.19.08 when me and my bestfriend/former roommate and Cofounder decided to test the rules and public opinion and throw a crazy party in heritage commons at Clark Atlanta University. Craziest part of that event was that it was snowing in Atlanta that day(first time I ever saw snow in the south) and there was 300+ people in our small apartment (with a crazy ex-marine RA roommate.) We nearly got kicked out of school/our apartment for that one but it was our start. from there We produced a movie and placed in the campus movie fest and continued to throw event, different projects, movies and anything that we could. Our goal was and still is, make @WoL means something, make it synonymous with greatness because anything else simply is not @WoL.

5.Who do you look forward to for inspiration?

Lets see, first off my parents, I love them to death, even when it seems that we want 2 totally different things for me out of life. Im inspired and influenced by the work itself, Im addicted to the final product and everything it takes to get there. My friends/subjects inspire me because with out them I wouldnt be able to get any of the things done, we are really a team out here. I can not lie thou, My biggest inspiration is that doubters( I dont have haters!) I feel that they push me harder than the yes-men/meat riders do. My partner is crime, the infamous Stryde Beezy is my biggest doubter but its not out of hate its more of a brotherly challenge and I cant thank him or anybody enough for that, because I have no doubt I will change there mind at the conclusion.

6.Talk a little about lifeisaspaceship.blogspot.com

Lifeisbutaspaceship really started with me just having some shit to say really. I was interning at the YMCA during the summer of 2008 and it was a pretty cool little situation, however it was very clean cut and safe. Now anyone that knows me knows that I am a free spirit, modern day hippie type of dude so my lifestyle and the job didnt always mesh together too well socially. I always felt like I did/do some pretty dope things on a daily basis and I want to tell the world about it. When I started the only people who I knew who was really on their blog tip foreal were my best friends Stryde Beezy and ...Miami Mook so I pretty much just jumped into it and started just writing about my adventures. I was honestly shocked at first when people started coming at me about the site who I had never met before. As more and more people started to get hip to the blog I wanted to use it as my tool to broadcast not only myself but all the talented positive people around me, because honestly those are the only people I like to surround myself with. As time has progressed I've been blessed to have the support of so many people(those I know and those I don't) and as long as I can I will continue on with the broadcast!

7.How has hip-hop influenced your life and your movement awol?

For the majority of my up bringing hiphop was like my forbidden fruit. To understand this you gotta realize that I went to catholic school my entire grade/hs career, and my parents tried to kind of shield me from some of the crazyness of society(especially around the DC metro area.) I have a undying love for music in general since i've been around it directly and indirectly since my youth. I feel like music in general has a lot of power beyond what people really even know. I don't just listen to music, I study, memorize and live it in my own way. I feel music is one of the biggest components behind any movement because music touches everyone. I like letting music be the glue for the birth of new relationships both business and personal because alot can be learned by simply knowing what a person listens to. I often times joke in social situations when people choose a song like..."u betta pick something good, becausing im judging u" not in a bad way, more so just using what I know about the music to give me a little more information about you.

8.What other business venutures do you want to get into besides photography?
Lol you trying to get the exclusives hahaha...for the rest of this year finishing up the countdown to midnight series with my artist Lil Bay Newt (mixtape dropping 1.1.10), The first line of Crushed Pearls will be dropping in the next couple weeks, so be expecting to see that everywhere well dressed people frolic lol. Still got the i@WoL X Top Heavy: We WIn U suck video that im working on, and the 2010 collabs are going to be crazy. The i@WoL compilation mixtape will be out by second quarter 2010

9.Where do you hope to be in the next five years
In 5 years I will be further along on this road to success. I can really give details because I dont want everybody to know I can tell the future lol but ima tell you this, this interview will not be our last, we making them get hip to this trip!
